Healthy Communities

in an Epidemic of Loneliness

Camp Loucon, Kentucky

October 11-14, 2024

    • Central Time Zone covers Camp Loucon, but Louisville Airport is in Eastern Daylight Time! Be aware of time zone changes when navigating by road and especially for catching flights.

    • Accommodations. Bring bedding: Twin and Full-size mattresses on wooden bed frames are provided in bunkhouses and private rooms we’re using. Bring sheets, blankets and pillows as needed. And a towel. Walmart has inexpensive sets of sheets/pillowcases @ $7 for twin size and $9 for full size. There is a Walmart in Leitchfield, KY with limited stock.

  • Breakfast Roundtables — a time for conversation around the breakfast table about topics that may be top of mind for you.  If you have an idea, share it at the registration desk and we will add it to a bulletin board and identify a table for the topic for Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast.

  • Everyone coming is invited to contribute either a short quote you’d like to share, or a few photos of your community, or both.

If you can bring large prints/color printouts, great. If not, you may email images to Toby at tobymommsen@ccimail.com

Around letter-size is good for photos. Label with community or family name… and drop them off at check-in area when you arrive.

Quotes can be printed in a large font (36 pt) on letter-size paper for posting. Anything relating to our theme would be great.

We’ll post these on a bulletin board in our meeting space, forming a ‘mosaic’ of images and inspirations from our diverse group… to help us visualize each other’s home settings.

  • Late Arrivals

If you arrive at Camp Loucon after dark, you may encounter a locked gate on the Loucon drive.  This typically happens late evening, after 8 pm. Call Jeff Bowman for the code to open the gate: 845-668-0685.  Or call Loucon Host at 270-899-1206.

We will staff the check-in table at Turner until 9 pm on Friday Oct 11.

    Departure

    • Lunch at 12 noon Monday is our last scheduled event, in Shaver dining room.

    • We realize everyone will need to get on the road, some at earlier times. Organizers will appreciate hearing if you need to leave before Monday lunch.

    • Help with cleanup of our meeting areas would be greatly appreciated. Any of us who can stay till that is finished (estimate around 1 – 2 pm) please do.

    • Bag lunch makings will be available in Ruby Room in Shaver dining room, from mid-morning till cleanup after lunch.

  • Photos & Videos

    • Andrew Howard and Paloma Matias-Ryan are our event photographers. You can email Andrew at andrewcraighoward@gmail.com if you have any photo/video questions.

    • Please add photos and videos from the gathering that you would like to share through this Google Photo Album.   Andrew will text this link to everyone during the gathering so that everyone who wants to can add their photos to the album.

    • Do not share the link beyond the group of attendees.

    • Use discretion if you’re sharing photos on social media. Avoid including photos of children without agreement of their parents.

    • We will make video recordings of a few sessions.

    • We will try to get audio recordings of all workshops. Each workshop leader will ask for a volunteer to make a recording on their phone, and to send a link or the sound file to Roberto Solis:  roberto@englewoodcdc.com

  • Campfires

We plan to have campfires in 3 or 4 locations near our accommodations each evening. Sites will be posted and marked with signs.

Camp Loucon staff have safety precautions for fires. A camp staff person will light each fire. Our Loucon Host will coordinate this. If you are waiting for light-up you may call Toby at 845 282-9939.

Ensure that all fires are safely extinguished at the end, with the bucket of water provided by camp staff.

Remain united to me, and I will remain united to you. A branch cannot bear fruit by itself; it can do so only if it remains in the vine. In the same way you cannot bear fruit unless you remain in me.
