Thanks to everyone for making the time to discuss the future of the Nurturing Communities Network. While further conversations are necessary, we made good progress toward planning next steps.

Here are some key takeaways:

  • Everyone on the call affirmed the value of the Nurturing Communities Network, in their own lives and in the mission of God. It is a uniquely diverse association, loosely connected through bonds of friendship rather than an institutional apparatus.

  • Though the world has changed since NCN began, there is still a hunger for genuine community and life together.

  • Intentional communities such as those represented by NCN continue to be a source of inspiration and imagination which contribute to the “renewal” called for by Paul in Romans 12:1-2.

  • Recognizing the changed social, political, and technological landscape, many also observed the challenges of communicating the vision of ICC to younger generations (“on ramps”). NCN may be able to meet this need.

  •  A general consensus emerged that, in the absence of a single director, leadership responsibilities might be redistributed to teams on the steering committee. Examples would include: Pastoral Care, Education, Outreach, and Gatherings. Roberto Solis will continue to handle basic administration. Further conservations – either at the Kentucky gathering or in follow-up Zoom meetings – are necessary to finalize this devolved leadership structure.

We'll keep you posted. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Kentucky!
